How to configure, bill, and hand off a Kestrel AI voice agent account to a client — verified against what the platform actually does today.
Quick answer: sign up with a dedicated email per client, configure the AI agent and phone number, activate billing yourself, then invite the client's real email from the Team page — they set a password and land on a working dashboard, no onboarding wizard. For the full narrative walkthrough, read how developers and agencies set up AI voice agents for clients.
Each Kestrel account has one owner from the moment it's created — there's no separate "blank account for someone else" step. The reliable pattern: you sign up with a dedicated email per client, configure everything as the owner, then invite your client's real email into that same account with the role you choose. If you manage several clients, use a separate email per engagement (a "+" alias works with most providers).
Sign up at /signup using a dedicated email for this client engagement — not your main Kestrel account, if you have one. Each account has a single owner from the moment it's created, so a fresh email per client keeps every client's data, calls, and configuration fully isolated from every other client you manage.
Go to Settings → AI Agent Config to set the greeting and conversation style, then Business Hours, Call Routing (emergency keywords and where urgent calls get routed), and Voice Instructions. This step has no dependency on a phone number — the AI's configuration lives on the account and can be set, or changed later, independently of phone provisioning.
Go to Settings → Phone Numbers and use "Purchase Number" to search by area code and choose the exact number for this client, rather than letting the platform auto-assign one when billing activates. Doing this first means the account already has its number by the time a plan goes live — nothing gets auto-provisioned behind your back.
Go to Settings → Billing & Credits and choose a plan while signed in as the account owner. This is a direct checkout that returns to the billing page — it does not route anyone through an onboarding wizard, because you're the one doing it, not your client.
Go to the Team page and create an invitation using your client's real email address, with the role you want them to have (Member, Admin, or Owner). The invite is scoped to that specific email, expires on the schedule you set, and gives you a shareable link and code alongside the automatic invite email.
New clients set a password and confirm their email, then land directly on the account you configured — no onboarding wizard, no plan picker, no phone number search. Existing Kestrel users just sign in and their session switches to the account you set up. Either way, the invite link only works for the email address it was sent to.
Setup isn't a one-time event. Agent tuning and RAG source management aren't separate "advanced" features bolted onto onboarding — they're the same settings pages used for initial setup, revisited whenever a live call shows something that needs adjusting.
Tracks extraction patterns the AI has learned from real calls, with an approval queue and a configurable confidence threshold. When a live call surfaces an edge case the AI didn't handle well, review and correct it here.
Manages the website content the AI draws on to answer questions. Add sources, trigger a rescrape after a client updates their site, and refresh what the AI knows without touching its core configuration.
Editable at any time, not just during setup. If a call reveals the AI mishandled a phrase or should route a new request type differently, update it directly — the change applies to the next call.
